What Do DoS Attackers Gain From Taking Down Gamer Sites?
What is the point?
Recently, DoS attacks took down League of Legends and other popular gaming services while trying to chasing some dude around the field. It appears at some point in time the Gamer they were following was purposely engaging ( taunting) them, and thanks to the quick thinking of a game site disaster was averted.
But what do they gain from flooding NTP servers with 234 bytes? What's the point ? Control?
Here is where I'm getting my (confusing to me) information about the DoS Gamer Sites:
New DoS Attacks Gamer Sites
What are your thoughts on this, and do you play MMO? The Reader's comments are just as enlightening. . one of them said it's not just happening at "gamer" sites , but his HS District is being hit with 10gb+ per second!

I think initially it was to show how cool they were and the thrill of power, even though it's not real power...lol
But times are changing and with it comes changes in attacks. With more and more MMO's engaging in micro transactions for enhancing players, I do believe you will see increased DDOS attacks as well as cyber attacks focused on stealing credit card information. Taking bitcoin might help but bitcoin has to add some form of tracking in order to do that which is against the idea of bitcoin in the 1st place.
Probably what they'll end up doing is coming up with a form of currency for micro transactions that can be both insured and traceable.
My how the times keep a changing
